Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has played an important role in the orderly-yet-rapid development of Delhi. The city has become the residence of choice for more than 11 million people and this number continues to increase. DDA started its operation in 1957 under the Delhi Development act. The biggest challenge in front of the Ministry of Urban Development Delhi has always been to provide adequate residential and commercial infrastructure facilities to over 11 million people in the city.

Besides the Master plan, DDA formulates Zonal plans, Area plans, Urban Extension Project etc. focusing on particular areas. The spheres covered include residential Housing schemes, commercial complexes and office spaces; land development, sports complexes, playgrounds, multi-facility gyms, golf courses etc.

DDA has so far acquired 67354.88 acres of land and out of which 59504 acres have already been developed.

• 30713.95 acres developed for residential property.

• 3250.45 acres developed for Industrial purposes.

• 8890.70 acres developed for Horticulture purposes.

• 10512.73 acres developed for Govt. & Semi Govt. & other departments for providing public facilities.

• 6583.31 acres for slum and JJ colonies.

• 5806.15 acres for Cooperative Societies (CHBS)

• 281.91 acres for 100m Road Narela Project 2

• 14.38 acres for 80m Road Narela Project

• 87.5 acres for utilization in Delhi Noida Bridge

• 1013.80 acres balance with DDA

Flats provided by DDA have all types of facilities like electricity, water & sewage disposal and other communication facilities. A suitable example is Rohini. It has been planned and developed by DDA. All modern facilities including gas pipeline have been provided.

Delhi has been attracting large numbers of immigrants from the neighboring cities and states and provided an accommodating atmosphere to all. The credit of this largely goes to the Housing Development Authority or DDA. Starting from the basic plan of Delhi, DDA Regional Housing Authority had the challenge to develop a pre-painted canvas into a beautiful work of art that New Delhi surely is with plenty room for all and more to come.
